Rhetoric: The New Weapon of Mass Destruction
I had to post again after commenting on Marilyn's blog because I have a few more thoughts now on what happens when we mix the rhetoric of politics with the rhetoric of religion. Plain and simple rhetoric can and is a weapon of mass destruction when used to ascertain "truth" or "certainty."

I had to comment on your blog because I saw the same emerging danger of using rhetoric as a means to interpret the bible. It made me laugh to see how the religious groups dimissed rhetoric because it was a pagan idea but suddenly embraced it when they realized the powers it gave them to manipulate their interpretations of biblical text and even scarier, their audience. I think that this week, more than any other, the importance of the speaker being a good person, became clearer than ever.
